Why choose Crete?

Crete is the largest of the Greek Islands with at least 300 days of sunshine and a host of attractions. The turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea and many golden beaches will make you want you to explore more of this beautiful island.

You can tour the island via Jeep Safaris or car hire, visiting, beautiful villages in the mountains or near the coast. There are also many walking trails through forests and valleys and interesting places to stop, eat, and wander around. By day, you can relax on the amazing beaches or pick up a bargain in the many boutiques and shops. In the evenings, you can enjoy Creteโ€™s unique cuisine and night life.

There are many historical sites across the island including the ancient Palace of Knossos and the island of Spinalonga.

Crete has its own unique history, culture, and cuisine. A word of warning though, one trip to Crete may not be enough, youโ€™ll be wanting to come back for more wonderful experiences!

Every day is a beach day

Crete boasts some of the best beaches in Greece, and some are among the blue flagged best beaches in the world. You will fall in love with the pink sandy beaches of Elafonisi, Balos and Falasarna, not to mention the palm tree forests and beaches of Vai and Preveli on the south coast of Crete. The south coast, within easy distance of the north, is a little more rustic.

Top tip: You may want to keep your beach bag at hand as you explore the island as there is always an opportunity of a beauty spot to have a dip in the sea.

Enjoy boat trips!

Surrounded by the Aegean Sea there are many options of boat trips in Crete for example visit Spinalonga and around Eloundaโ€™s Mirabello Bay.
A sail around the East coast is very popular leaving from the ports of Hersonissos, Malia or Sisi. Some trips include snacks or a BBQ. You can choose from a glass bottom boat, pirate ship or rent your own speedboat.

All these trips on land or sea can be incorporated with your wedding plan to make it that little bit different.

History

Crete is known for its ancient Minoan population. Which flourished between 3000BC and 1200BC mainly in central and Eastern Crete.
You can explore some of these historic landmarks in Heraklion, Knossos, Phaestus, Malia, Tylissos, Zakros, Monastiraki, Arhanes, Galatas, Kydonia. To name a few locations.
Various archaeological sites across Crete have beautiful samples of their paintings, pottery, jewellery and not forgetting the ruins all of which leave behind the splendour of this creative population.
